Wedding Traditions Which Are Liked By Everybody

All are completely aware that a wedding is unfinished without the numerous traditions and customs. They are an indispensable part of each marriage as they’re known to add on the element of luck and sanctity to the union of the two people to be tied in matrimony. When you talk of wedding, it’s tough to lose out on the plethora of marriage customs and rituals that surrounds us. Out of all, some are very common. Let us take a sneak peek into some of them.

The wedding veil is easily among the most liked marriage conventions particularly from the side of bride. It is based upon the custom of olden days where the bride showing her face to groom before wedding was not considered good. A wedding veil is so used to keep the bride’s face covered. The veil is also considered to offer protection to the bride from malicious spirits.

Another practice is the prevalence of white color in just about all factes of marriage. The dress of bride is meant to be white. Especially since Victoria of the UK wore a white dress to her wedding, it became the accepted norm which stays to this day. Moreover, it is believed that a lady who wears white on her wedding day selects the right man. Other colors like black, grey etc are not thought to be good for D day.

The following in line, very common wedding custom is throwing rice. This convention involves throwing of rice on the couple tied in matrimony. It has been a typical practice for quite some time now and is still going very strong as a custom. This convention employs rice because rice is known to represent fertility and prosperity as it grows in massive quantities. So rice is thrown on the couple so that the same prosperity can reflect in their married life.

You would have noticed that in a wedding rite, the bride is often kept on the left side of the groom. The story behind this is that there was a chance of potential suitors trying to snatch the bride away. Here the right hand of the groom was meant to be free to dissuade any such attempt.

You must have heard, “You may now kiss the bride”. The marriage kiss is another longstanding tradition. This tradition dates back to the Roman times to be explicit. Roman civilization considered the kiss to be the final symbol the bride-to-be and groom are now man and wife. The civilization did require that the kiss be witnessed by an individual of good repute and social standing.

Carrying bridal bouquets is also a common wedding tradition. Quite contrary to what many folks believe, marriage bouquets are not just meant to add to the style quotient. They have traditional significance too. In the earlier days the bouquets included herbs as well as flowers to keep malevolent spirits in check. Flowers were chosen depending on the meaning they signified.

Today these practices might appear mere carry-overs from past but they actually make the wedding ceremony interesting and beautiful.
